Dalat Palace Golf Club is well-known as the oldest golf course in Vietnam and also the most poetic course of all. Reside in the heart of the peaceful Dalat, and only take about 1 hour flight from Ho Chi Minh city, this place will be the best choice if you want to escape the heat and the noise of the modern city.
Dalat Palace Golf Club, used to be known as Dalt Golf Club, carries inside the story of Vietnam’s last Emperor Bao Dai, and in this case a sports enthusiast. The Dalat Golf course was first designed by a French architect Mr. E. Hébrard in 1923 but finally came to life around the 1930s with the name Doi Cu Golf Club. After Emperor Bao Dai returned from his trip to France, wanting to take up the new luxurious royal hobby, he decided to build his own golf course here. At that time, the Dalat Golf course had only 6 holes with a small Clubhouse, and only served the Emperor and the Court. Unfortunately, later the course has been abandoned for over 70 years due to political issues. Although there was a time of revival and renewal in the 50s, when it began to attract fame and fortune, the club still remained closed until the early 90s.
Since 1994, followed by the city Dalat becoming the ideal retreat place in Southeast Asia, a massive amount of money has been invested to restore the place. From then on, Dalat Palace Golf Club step by step became the brightest gem of Vietnam golf course as well as one of the leading courses in the whole Asia.
The Dalat Palace Golf course takes up a 7,009 yards area, covered with manicured bent-grass greens (the only course in Vietnam that has bent-grass greens), 18 hole championship, par 72 and a fully equipped driving range. With each and every swing you can enjoy the nostalgic feeling of the cool mountainous atmosphere. Right down the hill are the famous Xuan Huong Lake and the unforgettable scenery of the city center. The rolling hills, mature pines, and a series of lakes are what make this “the Most Beautiful Golf Course”. But besides that, this Club also provides “the Best Golfing Experience”, where you can enjoy both the Western sport and the Vietnamese culture at the same time.
The course is suitable for golfers of all levels, but a series of lakes and elevated greens will test low handicap players. In return, the course has large fairways and most of the holes are considerably straightforward.
The first tee, par three, or the best hole of the course is right at the front of the clubhouse. The 2nd and the 3rd is a medium length par four, while the 4th is longer and parallel to the 3rd. The 5th is a good par three but the most notable holes would be 6th and 7th.
The signature par-five 6th has a lake run on the left side and on the right is OB lines together with a series of pine trees. The landing area for the drive and the second shot are narrower and narrower, you have to be at most accurate to conduct the shot. The green is downhill to the fairways with a dogleg shape covered with bunkers, so the player must be careful to look out for those things.
The par four 7th is a longer sharp dogleg played uphill from the tee, between the tee and the second shot is a pond with fairways on each side. You will have to choose which direction to cross the water, while the route on the left of the pond is easier but you have to pay back with a full range of distance with the second shot.
Golf with past and present
Now, with the brilliant layout and update changes, Dalat Palace Golf Club has become a top-rated course in Vietnam and as well in South East Asia. Golfers come to Dalat Palace to emerge themselves in the leisurely lifestyle and five-star service.
As the witness of an old era, the vintage clubhouse has a fully-equipped pro shop, a restaurant with an outdoor patio close to the 18 green. Surrounding the clubhouse is a magnificent flower garden and pine trees view. You can enjoy any cuisine, Western or Asia, at the restaurant, but how about trying out some of the superb Vietnamese dishes for a change. For accommodation, there are a full range of spacious deluxe rooms in The Dalat Palace Heritage Hotel and The Du Parc Hotel Dalat, all ready within a few minutes distance to the course.
Dalat Palace Golf Club has a full practice facility and professional staff and course crew, here to guarantee a hassle-free golf experience. With a full view, you can see over a 300-yard driving range with putting green, and of course, practice bunkers. The best option for a relaxing vacation, and also not a bad choice for building business relationships.
The golf course is located in Lam Dong Province, where golfers can take 1 hour flight from Ho Chi Minh city to Lien Khuong airport, and approximately 1 hour travel by car to the destination.
